LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy walked perfectly the tightrope that comes with playing Kansas. On one hand, he praised the rebuilding job that Jayhawks coach David Beaty has undertaken, and pointed out how closely they played TCU a couple weeks ago. On the other hand, Gundy made it perfectly clear that he expects his Cowboys to win Saturdays game handily. You watch teams play across the country and you see teams that people think are much better than others, and at the end of the game its either a close score or they didnt win, Gundy explained. We try to use those as examples. We have a good football team and Coach Beaty is in a rebuilding process, he added, but we know that if we dont practice well, dont play well or turn the ball over, it could be a tough day.The Cowboys (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) have rattled off back-to-back wins after a league-opening loss to Baylor, and a week off gave them a little extra time to get healthy and prepare for Kansas. As if the Jayhawks (1-5, 0-3) needed anything else working against them.Theyre coming off a one-sided loss to the Bears last Saturday that threatened to wipe out all the good karma they had built with their 24-23 loss to the Horned Frogs. Baylor raced out to a 42-0 lead by the break, and then pulled off the accelerator while coasting to a 49-7 victory .Probably the biggest thing for me is the self-inflicted wounds that weve had throughout the season, Beaty said. You cant take those away and say, `Hey, if we didnt do that, didnt do that -- you dont get to do that because those things are a reality and they happened. Those things include four interceptions and five turnovers total, and four penalties that slowed drives when the Jayhawks did manage to hold onto the ball. The result? Just 217 yards of total offense.Hey, man, thats when you get blown out, Beaty said, and thats what happened.Beaty insisted the Jayhawks are a better team, and there would be no better time to showcase that than on Homecoming. As the Jayhawks prepare to play Oklahoma State, here are some keys to watch:QB WOESBeaty didnt try to gloss over the poor play by Ryan Willis last weekend, which in part led to Carter Stanley getting a look. A series of questions about their progress prompted Beaty to say, If we were playing well at the quarterback positions, you guys wouldnt be asking me these.QB GLOWSThere is no such quarterback trouble at Oklahoma State. Mason Rudolph is throwing for nearly 340 yards a game, third-best in the Big 12, with 13 touchdown passes and just two picks. As good of a manager as Ive seen so far. He manages the game really, really well, Beaty said. Hes taking care of the ball, really, really well, which bodies well for them.JOE, NO GOKansas linebacker Joe Dineen will miss another game, and Beaty said theres a chance he could be done for the season. He sustained a hamstring injury against Memphis, which means he could petition for a medical redshirt if he does not return. If things dont work out, I think it would be a possibility, Beaty said.NEEDED BREAKGundy gave his team a couple of extra days off last week, and wide receiver Austin Hays said the mental break was needed as much as the physical one.Id say there is a pep in our step, he said. We got to get out of town if we wanted, and I think everybody came back hungry and ready to finish out the rest of the season.BIRDS EYE VIEWCowboys defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer is expected to remain in the press box rather than on the sideline. It was a change that Gundy suggested and the benefit is that Spencer is better able to see the entire field. Its a change, Oklahoma State defensive tackle Vincent Taylor said, but weve made it work. Australia Women 230 for 8 (Perry 93*, Luus 3-52, Khaka 2-52) beat South Africa Women 226 for 5 (Luus 52, Lee 38, Perry 2-33) by two wicketsScorecard Ellyse Perry anchored a tense chase of 227 with an unbeaten 93 to help Australia beat South Africa by two wickets in the first ODI in Canberra. Perry, who walked out to bat with Australia at 39 for 2 in the 10th over, held the key for the home team throughout the innings, and succeeded in taking them across the line off the penultimate ball. She struck six fours and two sixes in her 107-ball knock. That was after Australias bowlers had combined to keep South Africa down to 226 for 5 at the Manuka Oval. After Australia fell to 49 for 3, Perry began rebuilding with a 52-run, fourth-wicket stand with Alex Blackwell. South Africa hit back when legspinner Suné Luus had Blackwell caught for a 51-ball 25. Jess Jonassen got going in a hurry, slapping two fours and a six, before Luus struck again, ending her innings on 21 off 17 balls.Wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy and Perry then shifted momentum towards Australia with a 48-run partnership. South Africa, though, chipped away and left Perry to get 32 with the lower order. Perryy added 28 with Megan Schutt in an eighth-wicket stand off 20 balls, reducing Australias target to just four off the last five balls.dddddddddddd Schutt was stumped off the legspin of Dane van Niekerk, the South Africa captain, in the first ball of the final over, before Perry struck a boundary four balls later to seal the game. Luus finished with three wickets, but was expensive, leaking 52 runs in seven overs.South Africas innings was built on the back of a combined team effort. Openers Lizelle Lee and Luus got off to a start, putting on 52 at a run-a-ball. Lee was dismissed off legspinner Kristen Beams for a 29-ball 38. Luus added 67 more for the second wicket with Mignon du Preez, before she was caught behind off Perry, having top-scored with 52. Contributions from du Preez (37), Marizanne Kapp (29 not out) and Chloe Tryon (25 not out) helped South Africa add quick runs in the end overs.Perry shone with the ball too, finishing with 2 for 33 in eight overs. Beams and Grace Harris were both economical and took a wicket apiece. ' ' '
