Australias coach Darren Lehmann has said Usman Khawaja is not out of favour with selectors, despite the batsmans recent comments that he and Joe Burns had been made scapegoats on the recent tour of Sri Lanka. Khawaja also labeled the selectors fickle for dropping the pair after two Tests in Sri Lanka, given both men were coming off excellent form in the previous few Test series.Lehmann said that he would have a private conversation with Khawaja concerning his public comments, preferring such matters to stay behind closed doors. However, it remains to be seen whether Khawaja will pay the price for his statements when the squad for the first Test against South Africa is chosen later this week.We have the GOAT, Lehmann told reporters in Brisbane on Tuesday, referring to Nathan Lyons nickname as the Greatest Of All Time. And now we have the Scapegoat. I love these nicknames ... He is not on the back foot. [But] I will chat to him privately. We would rather have these things played out between selectors and players.Khawaja and Burns were axed for the third Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, although Burns had been Man of the Match in Australias last Test before the tour - against New Zealand in Christchurch in February - and Khawaja had made four consecutive first-innings hundreds during the summer. Shaun Marsh and Moises Henriques came in at the expense of Khawaja and Burns.Being on the selection panel for the Test match, it was warranted, Lehmann said. At the end of the day, there were different conditions and those two guys werent playing well enough - they averaged eight or seven in two Test matches. We had to change something, but that doesnt affect the summer at home. We have to work out what we think the best batting line-up is for the summer.Khawaja and Burns are in action for Queensland against New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield match that started at the Gabba on Tuesday, although they will have to wait until later in the game to bat as Khawaja won the toss and sent the Blues in. At the WACA, Shaun Marsh, hoping to prove to the selectors that he had recovered from a hamstring injury, was batting early on day one.And at the MCG, Peter Siddle and Jackson Bird were potentially competing for the final bowling position in Australias Test squad, to be announced on Friday - assuming Mitchell Starc proves his fitness at the Gabba. Lehmann said Bird and Siddle both had the chance to bowl themselves into the side for the first Test against South Africa at the WACA.They certainly can over the next few days I would think, Lehmann said. [Siddle] looked really good in the Matador Cup and by all reports hes got some zing and zip back. Hes playing the Shield game so hopefully hell perform well and pull up well, and then well see what we do.His record is exceptional - he bowls good line and length and can complement Mitchell, but so can Jackson Bird. Coach Tom Thibodeau says the former MVP will probably start travelling with the team in the next few weeks. Rose tore the meniscus in his right knee at Portland in November and was ruled out for the remainder of the season by the Bulls. BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Nico Rosberg snatched pole position from teammate Lewis Hamilton at the Hungarian Grand Prix during an eventful qualifying at the Hungaroring. The session lasted twice its normal length due to a rainstorm ahead of the start and the challenge of drying conditions throughout, but pole position was decided in an unusual circumstances in the final minute. Hamilton was the quicker of the two Mercedes drivers on the first attempt in Q3, but as he came through sector two on his final flying lap he encountered Fernando Alonsos McLaren straddled across the exit kerb of Turn 9.Hamilton had to back off as a result, meaning he was not able to improve on his first run, but Rosberg was behind him on the track and the yellow flags for Alonsos spin were just clearing as he exited Turn 8 and entered Turn 9. Rosberg later said he had a very big lift when he first saw the double waved yellows on the entrance to Turn 8 but was not concerned by the threat of a stewards investigation. The improving track conditions on the final run meant Rosberg was able to go 0.143s quicker than Hamilton despite encountering traffic in the final sector.Like Hamilton, Daniel Ricciardo was also caught out by Alonsos mistake and had to abandon his lap and settle for third, while Max Verstappen got the timing wrong on his attempt and crossed the line to start his final attempt just after the chequered flag had flown. Sebastian Vettel encountered slow traffic in the final sector on his quick lap, meaning he stayed fifth ahead of an impressive lap by Carlos Sainz in the Toro Rosso. Alonso took seventh ahead of teammate Jenson Button, while Nico Hulkenberg in the Force India and Valtteri Bottas in the Williams rounded out the top ten.Hamilton only made the cut for Q2 by 0.105s over Romain Grosjean as drivers consistently impproved on the damp track, which was only dry enough for slicks at the end making the timing of the lap as important as the quality of the driving.dddddddddddd Daniil Kvyat and Sergio Perez also failed to make the cut for Q2 ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in 14th. When Raikkonen set his time he was the fastest driver up to that point, but as the 13 drivers behind him on the track all clocked their lap on the drying track they all jumped ahead of him, eliminating him for Q3. He will start ahead of Esteban Gutierrez and Felipe Nasr on the grid.Q1 was stopped four times under red flags, lasting nearly an hour before it was curtailed by just over a minute due to the final stoppage. The first red flag flew when a rainstorm hit the already-wet track, making the conditions undriveable and forcing the cars to tiptoe back to the pits. The second was caused when Marcus Ericsson lost the rear of his Sauber at Turn 8 and slammed into the barriers, but the track was drying by that point and when the session restarted a handful of drivers dared to run intermediate tyres rather than full wets. Felipe Massa was one of them and lost the rear of the car coming out of Turn 4 as he searched for grip on the exit kerb and was left wanting. He clouted the barriers on the inside, bringing out red flag number three. The session started again with five minutes left on the clock, but roughly 230 seconds later Rio Haryanto crashed into the same barrier Ericsson hit earlier in the session, bringing one of the longest Q1 sessions in memory to an end. Both Renaults were caught out by the final red flag, failing to set a time when the conditions were at their best, and therefore failing to make the cut for Q2. ' ' '
